How to choose the right elliptical trainer?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

When purchasing an elliptical trainer it is true, as it is with so many other walks of life, that you get what you pay for. What this means is the that you should avoid going for the cheapest elliptical trainer but instead going for the best value elliptical trainer. But how do you judge value? That’s a hard one.
If you are serious about elliptical training then going for a top-name, top-rated model may result in the best value for many for your case. If you think that your use of the elliptical trainer will be sporadic — or indeed if you intend to put it in the corner and never use it again — then spending the least money possible will result in best value. In the more likely case of occasional use from a keen amateur exerciser, then something in between these extremes will most likely suit you best.
The Internet is a great place to seek out bargains on elliptical trainers, but it has the huge disadvantage of not allowing you to “try before you buy” on the models. Perhaps combining a trip to the local shopping mall with a search of the Internet will yield the most productive results: you see a Schwinn Elliptical online for a great price. You compare that to a Bremshey Elliptical that seems to have great features. Now go to the mall and try both the Schwinn and the Bremshey out. Why not?
One of the most important steps in any substantial purchase is to compare and contrast. And ask questions! Doing a bit of thinking yourself, and to some extent performing your own due diligence, is more valuable than any advice offered by a salesman with a vested interest in parting you with your hard-earned cash.
